A look at the major findings of the FBI investigation, from the Associated Press: 1.
FBI probe focuses on whether Trump transition team coordinated with Russia.
The probe, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, is looking into whether former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates, both of whom are charged with money laundering, used the Trump Organization to make contact with Russian officials and representatives of the Russian government, according to a Justice Department memo.
In January, Manafort pleaded guilty to a single count of making false statements to federal investigators, admitting to the charges related to his work as a foreign policy adviser for the Trump team.
He has been cooperating with Mueller’s investigation, though he faces charges of lying to the FBI and other charges stemming from a separate investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.
FBI probes possible collusion between Trump campaign and Russia.
Investigators are also looking into possible coordination between Trump’s transition team and Russian operatives, according the Justice Department’s memo.
Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort has pleaded guilty and admitted to money laundering and conspiracy charges.
Russian operatives are not only allegedly involved in the 2016 campaign, but they’re also reportedly involved in efforts to influence American elections in 2017, according FBI officials.
According to the DOJ memo, investigators are investigating Russian operatives who worked for a political action committee called the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and its affiliates, and that the Russian military has been engaged in hacking attempts targeting the Democratic Party, including Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DSCC) and the Democratic Congressional Elections Committee (DCEC).
The FBI has been probing potential links between Russian efforts to hack Democratic computers and the 2016 campaigns, the DOJ officials said.
Investigators have also been looking at connections between the Trump transition, the DNC, and the DSC, and have gathered intelligence that indicates that Russian operatives used the information they gained through hacking to help influence American voters, according Justice Department officials.
In July, Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.
In the wake of Comey’s dismissal, Trump said he was “totally out of line” and “tried to influence an election” in the hope of stopping Comey from investigating his predecessor.
FBI officials told Fox News that Mueller has made progress on investigating ties between Trump, Manafort, and Russian officials.
“The Russians are not just trying to influence elections,” FBI Director Robert Mueller said, according a report by Fox News.
“They are trying to affect the outcome of elections.
They are trying, through a variety of means, to influence our political process.
We have to continue to do everything we can to try to get to the bottom of it.
We are pursuing all leads that we have and we have done.”
Fox News also reported, “We are not talking about the Trump-Manafort case,” but rather a broader probe into “Russian meddling in the U.K. election and other matters,” according to Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.
Doocy added that Mueller is “trying to make this whole thing go away.”
Doocy reported that Mueller’s team has not been able to “find any evidence to suggest that anyone colluded directly with the Russians to try and sway the 2016 elections.”
Mueller is looking for evidence that Manafort or Gates had any knowledge of the DNC and DCEC hacking attempts, according Fox News report.
Fox News reported, “”This is not a criminal investigation.
This is a civil investigation.
We’ve got to see what the evidence is.
This may be a whole lot of information.
